ABOUT THE PROJECT
Diabetes Kahaniyaan is a collection of human stories exploring how the South Asian diaspora in the United States is affected by coping or being at risk for diabetes. Our project’s goal is simple; get desis living and playing in the US to start talking about diabetes, and begin a conversation about their personal experience. This oral history invites us to consider the presence of this condition in our social circle right now. Help us get the conversation started about this urgent issue in an accessible and intimate way. Go ahead and tell us your story - we’re listening.
TEAM
Sandhya Moraes | Chief Story Collector Sandhya is a multimedia designer who hides macademia nuts, calls some people cows and gets her non-existent fashion sense crushed, often. She also enjoys chicken tikka masala and may be seen at sandhyamoraes.com
Vikram Mansingh | Code Monkey Vikram is a cunning code manipulator, even though he claims he is not a programmer. He juggles macademia nuts, blogging and nerves. In his spare time, you will find him eating.
Shannon Emigh | Executive Producer Shannon Emigh is one of the editing and technology geniuses for Diabetes Kahaniyaan. She is also a multimedia artist who spends her nights as a video editor. Shannon has a fondness for puppies, kittens, and various other sickeningly cute things. She also enjoys being called a cow, sometimes. Find her at shannonemigh.com
Sujatha Moraes | Little Story Collector Sujatha is one of the slickest visual designers hanging out at film festivals and music industry parties. She enjoys cheesy Latino music, pink piggies and crushing her sister’s non-existent fashion sense. Don’t worry, her sister appreciates it, mostly. Check her out at sujathamoraes.com
Anjali Verma | Kahani Initiator for San Francisco One of the most networked South Asians in the SF Bay area, Anjali is an ethnic Desi, a Greek citizen, and a die-hard San Franciscan. When she’s not pining a pistachio-coloured Vespa with bright purple & orange 5-petaled flowers on its side, she works 9 - 5 as a paralegal, and waitresses part-time to be able to eat chicken tikka masala for free.
